MAAAC
Update, May 2016 - (MAAAC for Mayor's Asian American Advisory Committee)
1.
MAAAC - leadership & partnership:
The
Mayor's Asian American Advisory Committee was formed in early 2008. The vision
is to help create a unified community environment. The mission is to
provide a bridge between the City and the Asian American residents. At first,
the Committee struggled to define the advisory role. Early on, we know clearly
that it is imperative to be well informed before we can provide sound advice.
Since 2009, the Committee decided to focus on the Eye on Quincy TV Show
production on the local community access channel, QATV. The content of the Show
is all about Quincy. The language used is Cantonese/ Mandarin and occasionally
English. We try to learn about the happenings in Quincy and to help spread the
necessary information.
Our
ultimate goal is to reach out and to engage all Chinese residents in the
City, to nurture leadership and to cultivate partnership. As philosophical
as it may seem, it is hard to imagine that it will ever touch ground. Over the
past 7 years, however, for a minimum of 20 shows per year, it is not
exaggerating to say that we have ENGAGED over 1,500 community members so
far!
i.e. 20
shows x 7 years x minimum 10 crew members/ viewers per show.
To
carry on the efforts, we urge everyone not to second guess what YOU can
do. Come join us to rejuvenate our energy and to continue becoming
important fabric of the City by active participation.
