Candidate for Governor Evan Falchuk Announces Hire

United Independent Candidate for Governor Evan Falchuk Announces
Hire of Field Director, Expansion of Campaign Committee, and Year-End Progress

BOSTON – Evan Falchuk (www.Falchuk2014.org), United Independent Party candidate for governor of Mass., is wrapping up 2013 with the addition of a Field Director and hundreds of campaign volunteers, an expanded Campaign Committee, new United Independent Party college clubs, and considerable press interest earned throughout 2013.

Since launching his United Independent Party campaign for governor on February 25 of this year, Falchuk has visited over 70 cities and towns throughout Mass., where he and his staff and volunteers have met directly with voters, small businesses, and issue experts. At each stop, the Massachusetts native speaks in detail about his call for fiscally sensible solutions and pragmatically progressive ideas; his direct communication with so many thousands of voters is resonating.

Falchuk’s list of active campaign volunteers and full-time staff of 12 are working with United Independent Party college clubs launched in 2013, at locations including Northeastern University, Suffolk University, Boston University, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, UMass Amherst, and Suffolk University Law School. The growing number of volunteers of all backgrounds coming on board with the United Independent Party and Falchuk’s campaign speaks to his operation’s focus of reaching voters throughout the state early and often.

On the field front, Falchuk announced this month the addition of Field Director John Rodriguez to his team. Rodriguez most recently served as Political Director in the high-profile Raul Ruiz (D) upset victory over U.S. Representative Mary Bono Mack, a 14-year Republican incumbent, in the U.S. congressional race for California’s 36th District. Prior to his field work for Representative Ruiz’s campaign, Rodriguez served as a lead community organizer, where he successfully led proposition and outreach efforts to bring high-quality education to children, and multi-million-dollar investments for the Building Healthy Communities initiative.

“I’m here because I believe in Evan, and believe he will bring the bold, sensible leadership people are hungry for,” Rodriguez said. “I choose the right candidate to support regardless of party – someone who will serve the people and not always put parties and special interests over voter priorities. Evan is that person.”

Falchuk also announced expansion of the Falchuk for Governor Campaign Committee; the committee has grown to 20 business and community leaders, with an additional 40 members planned for Q1 and Q2 2014. Falchuk’s Campaign Committee is co-chaired by Heather Egan Sussman, Partner at McDermott Will & Emery LLP in Boston, and David Appel, Managing Partner at Appel Insurance Advisors, LLC in Newton, Mass. To date, the Falchuk for Governor campaign has shown a consistent monthly increase in donations, adding to the growing interest in both Falchuk’s focus and the United Independent Party, launched in January 2013 by Falchuk and a group of supporters throughout Massachusetts.

In addition, Falchuk’s positions and campaign continue to earn noteworthy press interest and coverage from statewide and national press outlets. Outlets ranging from The Boston Globe, CBS affiliates, WBUR, WGBY, and the syndicated Jeff Santos Radio Show have featured news from the campaign, while dozens of state dailies have run profiles of the independent candidate and the pragmatic approach he’s calling for.

“Democrats are keeping an eye on Evan Falchuk, a 44-year-old Newton resident running for governor under the self-styled United Independent Party,” wrote the Associated Press earlier this month. Bloomberg Businessweek picked up news of Falchuk having been named to a national list of “10 Influentials in the Independent Movement to Watch,” featuring politicians and candidates dedicated to countering partisan politics, who are recognized allies of an increasingly prominent national independent voter base. Falchuk earned a slot on the list alongside U.S. Senators Bernie Sanders, Susan Collins and Angus King.

“We will be on the ballot, and we have the resources to run an aggressive campaign through Election Day 2014,” Falchuk noted. “Our campaign is streamlined and efficient, and we’re investing resources wisely. I will govern the same way.”
